A Craigslist Furniture Pickup
Craigslist is still a source for NYC furniture — and the pickup is the same challenge as any Marketplace. Here's how to get it home.
Confirm Before You Go
Message the seller, confirm the item is available, agree on the price, and confirm the address and a pickup window. A CL seller who won't confirm is a flag.
The Van
A Craigslist couch, table, or dresser doesn't fit a car. A van-and-pro ($99/hour, van included) is the standard booking. The pro brings a dolly and a blanket.
Inspect on Site
See the item before paying. A CL listing's photos don't show the back, the underside, or the damage. A vetted pro sends photos before you pay.
Cash or Venmo
CL sellers usually want cash or Venmo at pickup. Pay only after the item is inspected and loaded. Don't send a deposit before pickup.
The Carry
A CL pickup is at the seller's home — the seller usually can't help carry. The pro carries the item from the apartment to the van. For a walk-up, a stair dolly is the tool.
The Delivery
The item goes from the seller's apartment to yours. The pro carries it in and places it. One trip, one booking.
