How to Get a Heavy Package Up a Walk-Up

How to Get a Heavy Package Up a Walk-Up

The Heavy Package Walk-Up

A 70-lb box left at the door of a walk-up building is half-delivered. Here's how a pickup pro gets it up five flights.

Tell Us the Floor and the Walk-Up

The carry is the job. Tell us there's no elevator and how many flights. We send a pro with a stair-rated dolly.

The Stair Dolly

A stair-climbing dolly (tri-wheels) rotates up each step, turning a 70-lb box into a guided push. Without one, two people hand-carry the box one flight at a time.

Inspect First

A box already damaged at the curb should be photographed before the carry. A box that fails the stairwell is a claim against the carrier — and a photo is the proof.

Keep It Upright

If the box is marked "This Way Up," keep it that way. A heavy package flipped damages the contents, and the carrier won't honor the claim if the arrows weren't respected.

Clear the Stairwell

Move bikes, strollers, shoes off the landings before the pro arrives. A blocked landing is where a heavy box gets set down and picked back up — the dangerous moment.

The $45 Flat

A single package up a walk-up often fits the $45 flat. A very heavy or multi-box carry may add a small fee.
