A Mirror Shatters at the Corners
A mirror is glass — it shatters from a corner impact or from being laid flat. Here's how to pack it.
Tape the Glass
An "X" of painter's tape across the mirror. If it breaks, the tape holds the glass. The tape also flags "fragile" to the movers.
Corner Protectors
Foam or cardboard corners on all four corners. The corners are where mirrors chip; protect them.
The Picture Box
A mirror fits a "picture/mirror box" — the same flat, telescoping box used for framed art. Pad the mirror in a blanket, then the box.
Pack Vertically
A mirror moves and rides standing up, never flat. A flat mirror in a truck vibrates against the floor and shatters. Vertical, against the wall.
Nothing On Top
A mirror box has nothing loaded on top of it. Mark it "fragile" and "do not stack." A box on top of a mirror box cracks the mirror.
The Heavy Mirror
A large, heavy mirror (over 40 lbs) needs two people to carry and a secure strap in the truck. A heavy mirror dropped is a shattered mirror and a cut risk.
