Pack One Room at a Time
Packing the whole apartment at once is chaos. Packing one room fully, then the next, is how pros do it — and it makes unpacking logical. Here's the method.
Pack the Least-Used First
Start with the storage room, the guest room, the out-of-season clothes. Pack the kitchen and the bathroom last — they're used daily.
Label Every Box
Room + contents + priority. "Kitchen — plates — unpack first." A box labeled "Kitchen" tells you where it goes; "plates, unpack first" tells you when. The label saves an hour on unpacking day.
The "Open First" Box
One box per person: sheets, towels, toiletries, a change of clothes, phone chargers. This box is the last on the truck and the first off. The first night in the new place is survivable with this box.
Wrap Fragiles in Clothes
Packing paper is cheap; towels, sweaters, and t-shirts are free. Wrap dishes and glassware in soft clothing to save on bubble wrap and reduce box count.
Don't Overpack Boxes
A box over 40 lbs breaks the mover's back and the box. Heavy items (books) in small boxes; light items (pillows) in large boxes.
Disassemble What You Can
Bed frames, table legs, shelves — disassemble and bag the hardware. A disassembled piece takes a quarter of the truck space.
