How to Tip Furniture Assemblers
Tipping a furniture assembler is less standardized than tipping movers, but it's appreciated. Here's the guide.
How Much
15-20% of the assembly cost, cash, at the end. A $170 assembly (2 hours at $85/hr) tips $25-35. A single small piece ($85 minimum) tips $10-20.
When to Tip
At the end of the job, in cash. A tip is for clean, careful, on-time work. If the assembler was late, careless, or left packaging, a smaller tip or a word with the service is appropriate.
When to Tip More
A complex piece (a PAX, a bunk bed), a walk-up (the assembler carried the boxes up the stairs), or a job where the assembler fixed a problem (a stripped cam, a missing part). A 20-25% tip for exceptional work.
Per Assembler
Tip the assembler directly. If two assemblers, tip each. A $20-30 tip per assembler is common for a standard job.
Cash, Not Card
Assemblers prefer cash. A tip on a card may not reach the assembler. Cash, in the hand, at the end.
A Review
A good review (Google, Yelp) is as valuable as a tip to a pro building a reputation. A tip and a review is the gold standard.
When Not to Tip
A job where the assembler damaged the piece, left a mess, or was rude — no tip, and a word with the service. A tip is for good work, not for any work.
