BESTÅ Is a Modular System
The IKEA BESTÅ is a modular storage system — frames, doors, legs, and push-to-open mechanisms that combine into a TV bench, a sideboard, or a wall unit. The flexibility is also the complexity. Here's the build.
Assemble the Frames
Each BESTÅ frame is a box with an adjustable shelf and a back panel. Build the frame flat, square it (check diagonals), and nail the back panel. The back panel is structural — without it, a stacked BESTÅ racks.
Connect Multiple Frames
BESTÅ frames connect with through-bolts at the sides. Two frames side-by-side need the included connecting fittings; three frames need them between each pair. A stack without connectors shifts and the door gaps go uneven.
Doors: Hinge or Push-to-Open
BESTÅ doors come hinged or with push-to-open. Hinged doors mount on the included hinges — two per door, adjustable for gap and height. Push-to-open doors use a spring plunger: push the door, it pops open.
Adjusting Hinged Doors
Each BESTÅ hinge has two screws: side (left/right gap) and depth (in/out). Adjust the gap between doors first, then the depth so the door sits flush. A 1mm gap is standard; adjust both doors equally.
Legs or Wall-Mount
BESTÅ can sit on legs (included or sold separately) or wall-mount. Wall-mounting requires studs — the frame and contents are heavy. Use the included anchor and confirm the wall can hold the load.
The TV Bench Height
A BESTÅ TV bench is 16 inches high with standard legs. For a comfortable viewing height, choose taller legs (8-10 inch) to bring the TV center to eye level when seated.
