BESTÅ: Modular Means Unforgiving
BESTÅ is a modular storage system — you stack frames, add legs, hang them, and fit doors. Because the units connect, one crooked frame throws off the whole wall. Level is everything.
Start With the Floor, Not the Cabinet
NYC floors slope. Before assembling, lay a 4-foot level on the floor where the cabinet will sit. If it's off by more than 1/4 inch, use adjustable legs or shims so the cabinet starts level.
Build Each Frame on Its Back
Assemble each BESTÅ frame flat on the floor, face down. Tighten the cam locks in a star pattern (like a tire) so the frame stays square. A frame assembled upright almost always twists.
Connect Frames Before Adding Doors
Clip frames together using the included connectors and re-check level across the whole run. Only then hang the doors — doors hide alignment errors, they don't fix them.
Adjust Hinges Last
BESTÅ hinges have two screws: one for depth, one for side. Adjust side first so doors are flush with the frame, then depth so the gap is even top to bottom. A few turns and a sticky door glides.
Wall-Anchoring Is Required
A stacked BESTÅ run is top-heavy. Anchor to at least one stud per cabinet, even if it's only used as a TV console.
