BRIMNES Storage Bed Drawers Are the Build
The IKEA BRIMNES bed with storage has four drawers under the bed — and the drawers are where the assembly time goes. Misaligned drawers rub and don't close. Here's the alignment.
Build the Bed Frame Square
The BRIMNES frame is the same as any IKEA bed — cam locks and dowels. Square it before installing the drawer runners. A racked frame means the drawers bind no matter how you align them.
Install the Runners Parallel
The drawer runners mount to the side rails. Each runner has two screws. Measure the height of both runners — they must be exactly equal or the drawer tilts and rubs. Use the pre-drilled holes; don't eyeball.
Seat the Drawers Fully
The BRIMNES drawer slides on the runner and clicks into a stop. Push the drawer in until it clicks. A drawer that stops short has a runner that's not parallel — re-check the height.
The Gap Between Drawers
Two adjacent drawers should have an even gap (about 3mm). Adjust the side screw on the drawer front to even the gap. A crooked gap means one drawer's runner is higher.
The Mid-Beam
BRIMNES has a center support beam. Install it — the storage bed carries the mattress and the stored items, and the beam prevents sag.
Don't Overload
The drawers hold ~44 lbs each. Storing heavy items (books, winter coats) in the drawers is fine; storing a person's weight on the bed over a loaded drawer stresses the runners.
