The Reservation Nobody Tells You About
You booked the movers, rented the truck, and packed the boxes. Then you arrive and the building won't let you use the elevator. This is the most common move-day disaster in NYC — and it's entirely preventable.
Book the Service Elevator Early
Most large residential buildings require you to reserve the service elevator (or "freight elevator") for move-in and move-out. Book at least a week ahead; prime weekend slots fill a month out in popular buildings.
Get the Certificate of Insurance
Buildings over a certain size require a Certificate of Insurance (COI) naming the building as an additional insured. Our crew can provide one — ask when booking so we have time to file. Without it, the building turns you away.
Pad the Elevator and Lobby
Most buildings require padding on the elevator walls and lobby. Some provide it; many don't. A pro crew brings blankets and tape. Confirm what the building supplies vs. what you must provide.
Know the Move Hours
Many buildings only allow moves 9am–4pm on weekdays. Saturday hours are often restricted; Sunday moves may be banned entirely. Confirm before you book the truck.
What About Walk-Ups?
No elevator reservation needed — but expect a longer job. A fifth-floor walk-up can double the labor hours of an elevator building.
Ask the Right Questions Up Front
When you book, tell us your building name and unit. We'll ask the right questions and file the COI so move day isn't spent arguing with the doorman.
