Package Held at FedEx: Pickup and ID Rules

Package Held at FedEx: Pickup and ID Rules

A Package Held at FedEx

FedEx holds packages at FedEx Office locations or hold-at-facility for pickup. Here's how to get it released.

The Hold

FedEx holds a package at a FedEx Office or a FedEx facility if you requested hold-at-location or after a failed delivery. You get a notice with the hold location and hours.

The ID

FedEx releases the package to the person named on the shipment, with a government ID matching that name. To authorize a pro, you can add an "alternate pickup person" through FedEx Delivery Manager, or provide a signed note and your ID copy (some locations accept this — confirm).

The Tracking Number

Have the tracking number and the hold location when booking. The pro confirms the package at the desk with the tracking number.

Signature Required

If the package requires a signature, the pickup person must be the named recipient or an authorized alternate — FedEx is stricter than UPS on this. For a signature-required package, you may need to be the one to pick it up.

Same-Day

A FedEx hold at a nearby location is often same-day. Tell us the location and the hours.
