The Used Appliance Pickup
A used fridge, washer, or stove on Marketplace is a real bargain — and one of the hardest items to move. Appliances are heavy, plumbed, and the seller usually can't help carry. Here's how a van-and-pro service gets it home.
Confirm It's Unplumbed and Ready
Ask the seller to disconnect and drain the appliance before the pro arrives. A fridge with water in the line, a washer with residual water, or a gas stove still connected means the pro waits — and the clock runs.
Bring an Appliance Dolly
A refrigerator won't be hand-carried by one person. Our pro brings an appliance dolly and straps. Confirm the appliance's weight when booking so the dolly and the crew are right.
Keep It Upright
A fridge must be moved upright (see our fridge-moving post). A washer should be, too. Tell the pro which appliance it is — the carry rules differ.
Measure Both Doorways
A 30-inch stove fits most doorways; a 36-inch fridge often doesn't. Measure the seller's doorway, the stairwell, and your own before booking. An appliance that won't fit the stairwell is a wasted trip.
The Van Is Sized to the Appliance
A stove fits a van; a tall fridge fits a van with the door height cleared; a stackable washer-dryer fits a van. A standard refrigerator may need a small box truck — tell us the model and we'll size it.
Inspect Before You Pay
Appliances should be tested before purchase. Ask the seller to plug it in and run a cycle (or show it cooling). A pro can video-call you during the inspection if you're not on site.
Reserve the Elevator at Both Ends
Appliances don't fit in passenger elevators. Reserve the freight elevator at the seller's building and at yours, or the pro waits.
The 2-Hour Minimum Applies
An appliance pickup with a van usually fits the 2-hour minimum if both addresses are in NYC. A long drive or a walk-up adds time.
