Picking Up a Table from Marketplace (Protect the Top)

Picking Up a Table from Marketplace (Protect the Top)

A Table Pickup: Protect the Top

A dining table's top is the finish — a scratch or gouge ruins it. Here's how to pick up a table from Marketplace.

Remove the Legs

Unscrew the four legs before loading. A table with the legs on won't fit the van and takes up the space. Bag the bolts and tape them to a leg.

Protect the Top

Lay a blanket on the top, then a sheet of cardboard, and tape the blanket (not the finish). The cardboard protects the blanket from the van's walls.

Load It On-Edge

The table top goes on-edge against the van wall, padded. The legs bundle separately. A table laid flat has items stacked on it — the top gets damaged.

The Leaf

A table with a removable leaf — take the leaf out and wrap it separately. The leaf is the easiest piece to lose.

Measure the Van

A 6-foot table fits a cargo van; an 8-foot table may need a box truck. Tell us the table's length when booking.

The Carry

A table is a two-person carry. The pro brings a second person or a dolly, depending on the weight. A glass-top table is a special case — it's treated like art (vertical, padded, no stacking).
