TV Stand Assembly and Cable Management for a Clean Setup

TV Stand Assembly and Cable Management for a Clean Setup

Build the Stand, Hide the Cables

A TV stand assembled without a cable plan looks fine — until you plug in the TV, the soundbar, the console, and the streamer, and a dozen cables dangle in front of the shelf. Plan the cables while you build.

Route the Power Strip First

Mount a power strip to the underside of the top shelf or the back panel before you attach the desktop. Route the strip's cord out the cable grommet. Now every device plugs in out of sight.

Use the Grommet

Most TV stands include a grommet (a hole) in the back panel. Thread every cable through it before you attach the desktop. Doing it after means flipping a fully built, heavy stand.

Cable Sleeves and Raceways

Bundle the cables behind the stand with a zip sleeve or an adhesive raceway stuck to the back leg. From the front, you see the TV and the shelf — not the cables.

Wall-Mount the TV, Route to the Stand

If the TV is wall-mounted, run the power and HDMI inside a paintable cord cover from the TV down to the stand. A pro will confirm the wall has a stud for the mount and an accessible path for the cord.

Leave a Service Loop

Leave 6 inches of slack where each cable exits the stand. Tight cables pull out; a service loop keeps them seated and makes swapping a device a 30-second job.

Test Before You Close It Up

Plug in every device, turn them on, and confirm before you push the stand to the wall. Reaching behind a loaded stand to fix a loose HDMI is the worst part of any setup.
