A Used Fridge Delivery
A used fridge from Marketplace is a great deal — and the item most likely to be damaged in transport. Here's how to deliver it intact.
Keep It Upright
The fridge must stay upright the whole move. Tipping it lays compressor oil into the cooling lines; plugging it in burns out the compressor. If it must tilt, keep it under 45° and let it sit 24 hours before plugging in.
Appliance Dolly
A fridge is a dolly move — strap it to an appliance dolly, tip it back, roll. Never let it rest on its side.
Measure Both Doorways
A standard fridge is 30-36 inches wide, 65-70 tall. Measure the seller's doorway, the stairwell, and yours. A fridge that fits the kitchen door might not fit the stairwell turn.
The Van
A fridge fits a cargo van (if the van's door height clears it). A tall fridge may need a small box truck — tell us the model.
Tape the Doors
Painter's tape holds the doors shut. A door that swings open mid-move snaps the hinges.
Wait to Plug In
After delivery, let the fridge sit upright 24 hours before plugging in. This is the step most skip — and it's the one that kills the compressor.
Reserve the Elevator
A fridge doesn't fit a passenger elevator. Reserve the freight elevator at both buildings.
